Yesterday,19th November, the world celebrated World Toilet Day,I am still trying to relate on the coincidence it has with World Men's day.
Statistics says there are 4.2billion people living without safely managed sanitation, 673million practice open defecation while 3 billion lack basic hand washing facilities.
The importance of clean toilets cannot be overemphasized. It helps to prevent killer diseases like Hepatitis A&E,typhoid, diarrhea and many more. One purpose of declaring World Toilet Day is to advocate and inspire action to tackle global sanitation crisis with keen focus on open defecation.
The kind of challenge people face in big cities like Lagos in terms of toileting is not funny but thank God for new generation banks littered all around Lagos where sometimes you have to join the queue for hours during the day.
I think it will be worthy of note if big organisations like Banks and many others as part of their CSR,corporate social responsibilities build toilet and toilet facilities in strategic areas and for maintenance,it can be used as an incentive to empower some persons, who will be cordinators of such facilities possibly(there is no shit money ).
Schools should also not be left out and with this,we can have more girls enrolled in schools as this will guarantee their security, protection and dignity considering the peculiarity of their make up.
Happy Belated World toilet day.

ReplyDeleteIndeed, thank God for banks, malls and sometimes eateries. I agree that more public toilet facilities needs to be strategically built within Lagos. And as advised,it would indeed be a worthy and notable CSR for banks and bigger corporations.
ReplyDeleteHappy world's toilet day in arrears.
