PEOPLE & ATTITUDES

Sometimes in life, its amazing how some persons treat one, meeting one for the very first time and maybe the last time. Whenever you meet an individual and you are badly treated in that skin of being worthless, never mind,do not feel bad, apparently,it is not your problem but theirs.

Attitude they say is everything, attitude sells an individual out so easily.  Imagine one, meeting a person and you so much 'tag' along and you enjoy friendship for life with them while meeting some other persons, depression sets in and all you can do is to start assessing if your English or choice of words or dressing was a problem, when opportune you even want to get a standing mirror immediately to have a repeat, over and over again of the scene. The truth is,a lot of persons especially in this age and time have lost touch with reality and the truth and they are just a shadow of themselves. One,may start thinking that they are psychologically fine as they appear but the truth is,they are battling what your mind can hardly conceive.
Given that life can be unpalatable, every individual is responsible for what they choose to allow life situations make out of them. While some individuals chose to pass out their aggressions and so perceived frustration out on someone else, some others have enriching and endearing attitude towards other individuals and their stories behind the scene are really pathetic and worth some empathy but still they have the best of attitude towards everyone.

When the attitude of those one meets spells DEPRESSION, yours should spell depression correctly 'I PRESSED ON'.One's life should not hang on someone else's attitude especially those of hopelessness but on one's own very self because one(you) is responsible for what eventually becomes one's( your) lot.

MOTORCYCLES: DEATH TRAPS

Very recently,Lagos roads have become nightmares , may be due to the heavy rains, the heavy population and all. It has become hellish a state especially for businesses, employers, employees and all working class. Motorcyclists(popularly called Okada riders in local parlance)n Lagos are mostly boys and young men, a large number mostly emigrating into Lagos from Northern Nigeria, who are supposed to be in high school or on the farm and who learn the skill of riding within four to five hours and fiam!,they are on the roads negotiating and picking passengers(in Lagos, there must always be passengers so I once heard them say when I was in the North for a short while) and before you know it,they are migrants in Lagos with trucks loading them Into Lagos and possibly sometimes the motorcycles aimed  for the business.
Recently, the Okada business just got advanced  and hyped with the likes of Go Kada,O pay etc just like their car counterparts UBER and TAXIFY with the use of technological apps. As a result, some Lagosians believed in the sanity of these rides.Sometimes last year,i saw some Chinese men at an Okada park, trying to convince some riders to join their company as advanced okada riders. Their conversations dwelled on  kitting them up with helmet
and getting them the necessary papers to avoid disturbances from Lagos touts collecting Government taxes. Now we have many of them on our roads which has even worsen the situation because I think they are now the number one killer on highways especially in Lagos as people who will naturally not take okada on high ways seem to have reposed so much confidence with the hypes and use of apps.

First, there are fundamentals issues about the roads. When the plans were drafted, there was no provision of lanes for  bicycles, tricycles or motorcycles.
Second is the sanity of those riding these cycles and other road users.
Third is the sensitivity of transport regulations, regulators and governance

Okada death,one too many.
Okada death in Lagos now is one too many. Gone are the days when victims of okada accident end in Orthopaedics, they mostly die instantly as it seems.

  • Just mid year during Ramadan was a young female chartered accountant,Latifa Adewura Bello by name. Her picture  went viral on social media hat the family was in search of her . She was said to be returning from work and had taken a motorcycle to ease her getting home earlier due to the heavy traffic. The rider was said to have used a road that was condemned in which several vehicles have been warned against the use but with the young lady behind him, there was an accident and the lady slipped immediately into a carnal through a manhole, around Abule Odu,Gowon estate,Ipaja area of Lagos. She was not found until about a week after at the end of the carnal after so much search from LASEMA,LAMATA.etc.

Around August also was an in-law to a family friend who was said to have left his car at home and was on his way to work using a  motorcycle as BRT (bus Rapid Transit) hit him behind and the rest is history.

On Nov 19, World Men's day, a former neighbour of mine was returning from his office between Ikeja and Meiran on Abeokuta express way,he was hit by a truck and the young man whose wife is pregnant of their fourth child did not survive this.

These young people have their *lifes*cut short in their primes, they were sent to endless eternity unexpectedly because of some form of lawlessness in the land.
There should be some form of repositioning of the transport system especially in a place like Lagos. There should be enough private-public partnerships such that we will have less number of private cars on the roads and maybe alternative routes for bigger vehicles,so that we avoid situations whereby there are 150 vehicles in traffic on the road with just 153 persons in them. We pray and hope drastic steps are taken as fast as possible while we all are still alive.

Okada death,one too many.

LIFE FACT: Toilet talk

Yesterday,19th November, the world celebrated World Toilet Day,I am still trying to relate on the coincidence it has with World Men's day.
Statistics says there are 4.2billion people living without safely managed sanitation, 673million practice open defecation while 3 billion lack basic hand washing facilities.
The importance of clean toilets cannot be overemphasized. It helps to prevent killer diseases like Hepatitis A&E,typhoid, diarrhea and many more. One purpose of declaring World Toilet Day is to advocate and inspire action to tackle global sanitation crisis with keen focus on open defecation.

The kind of challenge people face in big cities like Lagos in terms of toileting is not funny but thank God for new generation banks littered all around Lagos where sometimes you have to join the queue for hours during the day.
I think it will be worthy of note if big organisations like Banks  and many others as part of their CSR,corporate social responsibilities build toilet and toilet facilities in strategic areas and for maintenance,it can be used as an  incentive to empower  some persons, who will be cordinators of such facilities possibly(there is no shit money ).
Schools should also not be left out and with this,we can have more girls enrolled in schools as this will guarantee their security, protection and dignity considering the peculiarity of their make up.
Happy  Belated World toilet day.

Life matters

Inside Lagos, the commercial hub of Nigeria.

I present to you how streets in Lagos now look on the average, and here we are dwelling and trending on death penalty for hate speech, when other countries of the world are finding means to abolish death penalty as a means of punishment for crimes. As much as I believe that authorities should be respected and given due honours,I also believe that Authorities should be responsible especially to her citizenry and people that are being served who are enabling them earn such respect.
If there are good motorable roads, constant electricities and provision of basic amenities in Nigeria, hate speeches and whatever is perceived as hate speech will naturally reduce  and may even never exist anymore.

What's your take please,I am willing and ready to hear from you.

ABUSES & MISUSE

#LIFE MATTERS#
#MATTERSOFLIFE#

ARE YOU KIND TO YOURSELF?

Abuses and Misuse simply means improper treatment ,wrong practice and abnormal use.
From time immemorial, there have been abuses and it increases by the day especially when not prevented. In some cases, individuals even personally abuse and misuse themselves, though the effects are usually immeasurable.

Abuses could be carried out verbally, physically emotionally, psychologically or in any form.

Abuses could be;

Photo: Christian Erfurt on UNSPLASH.

Physical:Hitting, beating,strangling etc

Digital: Using technology to hack into another's account and privacy, use of social media like twitter,Facebook,Instagram etc as I see on twitter street, some Nigerians just must abuse whenever they comment especially when they disagree. Some persons request for nude pictures and threaten their victims of exposing  such digitally so as to exploit them.

Marital :Domestic violence from the woman to the man, vice versa. At the  work place, the man is a boss but in the house he is a  baby who is helpless, courtesy of his wife. In some cases, isolating partner from family members and friends who are not necessarily having any  influence negatively. Being unnecessarily possessive when a partner is seen with another especially an opposite gender. Most often, emotional abuses lead to physical abuse, denial of basic provisions like intimacy and amenities.

Financial: This could be in any relationship, parents to children, wives to husbands or vice versa such that the man's money is spent for the home but the woman's money is meant for her own personal use.Embarrassing employer of spouse which may lead to loss of job, preventing a woman from working yet being irresponsible for her financial upkeep. In some cases, helping out financially with the intention to get returns in kind.

Clerical abuse:Using spiritual authority wrongly to abuse subordinates, their spouses and children.

Adult /Elders' abuse: Abandoning the old especially those vulnerable or taking advantage of  unsuspecting ones.

Medical abuse:A physician or caregiver taking advantage of patient's disability or ignorance.

Parental abuse:Children to parents or parents to children. Abandoning children for longer periods with inadequate care.

Human Right abuses:In this case,it seems rule of law is rightly defined on paper and Democracy seems defined  to make a common man happy but really cannot be realised anywhere in the world.
If its really Government of the people,by them and for them, the negative repercussions may be worst considering the world we live in presently.
The rate of inhumanity is alarming and unthinkable.

Some persons for reasons of fraud and or dubious activities would not consider it important to have their annual rest and leave. They abuse and at the same time misuse themselves stressing and never de_stressing. They pass aggression out on every one they encounter. While  some others, worry themselves to sicknesses and death, on situations they have no control over.

Some persons usurp authority, they are islands of knowledge and ideas  and so do not delegate responsibilities to others or subordinates. They wear out and look older than their  real self. They shoulder all responsibilities and do not trust themselves to even instruct  or delegate others. Division of labour is not real as far as they are concerned.
Another form of misuse which we see around often is  misuse of office. In this case,it could be misappropriation of funds and power causing structural violence and agitations for secession and even war.

The last to be considered here is misuse of self. The human race is very complex especially in this age and time, that anything goes. Its amazing, how it is now believed,in this contemporary age that some persons who engage in same sex relationship are actually born that way because it is inherent in them and they now clamour for their rights also as it were. However,I am yet to hear from Cell Biologist that the gay gene has being discovered. Sometimes, especially this age,I tend to admire the orderliness of lower animals. In the history of the world,it has never being said that a male dog was caught with another male dog copulating or any such thing in the animal kingdom .In High school, and those with boarding facilities, there have been talks of such practices being so rampant and it seems to be in Vogue and I wonder if its not a form of misuse of the body.
I laugh when the young misuse themselves by abusing substances and it just seems illogical that a drug that would usually be prescribed to someone in the shadow of death to ameliorate their pains before death finally knocks on their doors like Tramadol etc are the drugs used to get inspiration, get high and feel belonging, its so absurd and an unforgiven way of misusing one's body.

Abuses  and Misuse, ruin lives, impact negatively, leaves victims with Post traumatic stress disorder(PTSD),mental health disorder, suicide and even death in some cases.
When one de-stresses and is kind to himself or herself,it projects to others and reduces abuse.

LIFE FACT:GRANDPARENTS!

How many of us have our grandparents still alive?Hands up please.

It is a rare privilege when one is that opportune.
Let's take out time to celebrate them, especially the responsible ones. We are today enjoying the produce of their hard work and they have so far given us the better life we have now.

Photo:Marisa Howenstine on UNSPLASH
We are not meant to celebrate them only at deaths or  at funerals by slaughtering of cows, giving out  souvenirs, takeaways and printing of party uniforms and CO's.
No matter how very poor we are now or how so unhealthy or feeble they may be,let's take out them to celebrate and spend time with them, such memories will stay for longer.

photo:Vidal Nordli Mathisen on UNSPLASH
By the way,i hope the world will take out a day,I  propose JUNE 4 every year to celebrate WORLD GRANNIES DAY/WORLD OLD PEOPLE'S DAY to include those who do not have such a privilege.
Happy world Grandparents day in advance to all grandparents world over .LOL.

WHAT DID THESE TO US?

#LIFE MATTERS#
#MATTERSOFLIFE#

WHAT DID THESE TO US?

When our clerics preach prosperity, not morals, not holiness. You have just lost a loved one and religious bodies can only console you by leveraging on your loss to donate millions to Churches and Mosques.

When appointment into political positions is by sentiments and influences not hardworking, ability or technocracy and a political office holder serving the people earns monthly the National budget of smaller functional nations.

When politics and public office or office holding is a career for looting and looters.

When public figures and celebrities who are supposed to be role models damage the future of our Futures.

When our youths no longer believe in hardwork(ing) but cutting of corners which they term smartwork(ing) and for fun or whatever reasons, engage in alcoholism and substance abuses .

When Media houses who are supposed to be watch dogs and fourth in the realm of estate, are owned by politicians who massacre our National reserves. They get National awards and are celebrated as heroes of our time.

When farmers are in cities commercialising as motorcyclists to manufacture human casualties.

What did these to us and at what point did we get it all wrong!

When judgement is perverted and the innocents suffer .When the innocents rot in jail without trial.

When there is blood shedding by carelessness and by strategy.

When people rob with pen to donate to earn public honours and we eulogise them and doff our sacred hats for them as mentors and great men.

When they rob with rituals, looting the Central bank to vomit monies in secret rooms.

When we patronise religious homes on weekends, singing Halleluyahs, lifting up bloodstained and dirty hands but are full time prostitutes, murderers, evil workers, during the week.

When you cannot get licenses to practice professionally without having to bribe your way through.

When all we have are round pegs in square holes.

When hemps are publicly displayed in markets as wares  and preached as sources of inspiration without attaching cautions.

Our ineptitude to state the obvious truth and stand by it regardless of the consequences has dealt terribly with us.
Our ability to make a law and immediately violate it with impunity has brought us thus far.
When there are no consequences for wrongs and violations of  rules,BUT,
there is hope for a tree that is cut down as long as it root remains, there is hope that it will spring forth again.
There are a lot of evil going on in the land, the list is inexhaustible but the answer to the puzzle is ; If my people who are called by name will humble themselves, pray and turn from their wicked ways then I will forgive their sins and will heal their land. This is very important in Nigeria especially now. God can only look down from heaven in our case when we decide to invite him, else things can only get worse than they are presently.
